IMMEDIATE PRESS RELEASE

July 20th, 2007

Cue to fundraiser for Red Cross

Snooker players of all levels of skill are invited by The Academy Basingstoke, north Hampshire’s largest snooker and pool centre, sports bar, restaurant and live music venue, to support a charity snooker tournament to raise money for the Basingstoke branch of Red Cross.

Competitors are asked to donate £10 to the Red Cross and invited to take part in the snooker competition to be held at The Academy in Worting Road on Sunday 19 September 2007 commencing at 10am (10.30am draw).

Competitors will be given handicaps and the competition will operate on a knockout basis. Referee is Mr Chris Bone of Cuestars.

The overall winner will win a prestigious cup and £100 cash. Second prize is £50 cash; the two runners-up will win £25 each with a plate competition for the first match losers; the prizes were donated by the Left Hand Drive Place dealership in Basingstoke. But, all competitors will enjoy free snooker for the tournament courtesy of The Academy.

Andrea Hicks, Deputy Manager of The Academy said: “Red Cross volunteers helped thousands of stranded passengers throughout the night following the 30 June terrorist attack at Glasgow airport. Volunteers provided emotional and practical support to more than 3,000 people who had been taken to the Scottish Exhibition Conference Centre, which was used as a rest centre, following an evacuation of the airport.”

“When I read all this in the newspapers, it reminded me of the invaluable work that the local and national Red Cross undertake on behalf of the community, not just in times of crisis but throughout the year. I believed that it was a charity that we should support. Then the unforgettable pictures of local Red Cross teams helping people in distress as a result of the flooding reinforced my determination to help them.” explained Andrea.

To enter the competition, players are invited to register at The Academy in advance or on the day.

Further details can be found on The Academy’s website at http://www.academyclubs.com/ or by telephoning 01256 327273.

Basingstoke teenager hip hops to The Academy!

IMMEDIATE PRESS RELEASE
Basingstoke, Hampshire UK
20th July 2007

Winklebury teenager hip hops to The Academy!

He is aged 19, from Winklebury in Basingstoke, has lived in the town all his life and for the last eight of those years has written his own lyrics! Firstly as an MC to old school, garage, house etc. but then got into the grime scene!

Now, this amazing music talent, who was a great hit at the recent Basingstoke Live Festival, is to be the support act for East 17 when they appear at The Academy in Worting Road on Saturday 28th July.

Richard Reece, aka “the Author”, started to concentrate on hip hop and has stayed with it for the last 3 years since he has been producing his own beats! He makes all kinds of beats but mainly Hip Hop, Grime, D'N'B & his speciality '160's'!

He says his influences are Eminem, Kano, Ludacris, Nas, Dr.Dre, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jay-Z, Method Man, Timberland, 50, Sway, Kanye West, Drum Runners and Raz Brothers

Sponsored by Basingstoke-based http://www.outwise.co.uk/ as an upcoming local talent, Richard, who is currently unsigned, has been looking for opportunities to perform in Basingstoke (or anywhere) and work his way to the very top!

It was the sponsor who contacted The Academy to ask if they would give Richard the opportunity to showcase in his home town; this was agreed and now the teenager has a fantastic opportunity to showcase with a band that is a household name.

Admission is £15 on the door, over 18’s only; doors open at 7.30pm. Advance booking is advised and tickets are now available on-line at http://www.academyclubs.com/ where full details of this and other original artists, including local bands, appearing in 2007 at the Academy live music venue, alongside their popular tribute band shows, are available.

Leading US folk-rock singer to perform in Basingstoke despite terrorist incident

IMMEDIATE PRESS RELEASE
Basingstoke, Hampshire UK
12th July 2007

Leading US folk-rock singer to perform in Basingstoke despite terrorist incident

Los Angeles-based recording artist Lisa O’Kane will be supported by leading American folk-rock singer Kenny Edwards at the official launch party for her brand new CD, IT DON’T HURT, at The Academy in Basingstoke on 21st July.

Kenny was co-founder of The Stone Poneys along with Linda Ronstadt and Bobby Kimmel and they became chart toppers even before Kenny and Linda teamed up with Andrew Gold to make more hits.

Kenny has performed with such household names as Art Garfunkel, Brian Wilson and Hal Ketchum who appeared live on stage at The Academy earlier this year. He has also written TV and film scores working with such directors as Beau Bridges and Dianne Keaton.

John Hicks, General Manager of The Academy said: “We are so delighted that Kenny is joining the extensive list of world class musicians who regard our venue and Basingstoke as the place they wish to visit. To host Lisa’s European Tour was terrific news but for her to choose to host her CD launch party at The Academy and to invite Kenny Edwards is wonderful.”

Lisa herself hit the headlines in the US on her way over to the UK when her flight was marred when a suspected terrorist was arrested in-flight and her plane had to be diverted to New York from Los Angeles. She is now safely in Basingstoke for her rehearsals and media activity.

IT DON’T HURT will make its debut at The Academy on July 21 during a special CD-launch bash, a full 10 days before its “official” street date. The Roots/Americana diva can rely on her loyal U.K. fans to fill the room, as those fans have followed her since the 2002 release of her debut CD, AM I TOO BLUE, and the 2005 issue, PEACE OF MIND.

The show starts at 8pm with country music radio and television presenter, Lee Williams of CMR Nashville radio, playing old favourites and the latest releases across the whole spectrum of country music and taking the night through to 2am with audience requests.

Admission is £10 on the door, over 18’s only; doors open at 7.30pm. Advance booking is advised and tickets are now available on-line at http://www.academyclubs.com/ where full details of this and other original artists appearing in 2007 at the Academy live music venue, alongside their popular tribute band shows, are available.
