Leading US folk-rock singer to perform in Basingstoke despite terrorist incident

Los Angeles-based recording artist Lisa O’Kane will be supported by leading American folk-rock singer Kenny Edwards at the official launch party for her brand new CD, IT DON’T HURT, at The Academy in Basingstoke on 21st July.

Kenny was co-founder of The Stone Poneys along with Linda Ronstadt and Bobby Kimmel and they became chart toppers even before Kenny and Linda teamed up with Andrew Gold to make more hits.

Kenny has performed with such household names as Art Garfunkel, Brian Wilson and Hal Ketchum who appeared live on stage at The Academy earlier this year. He has also written TV and film scores working with such directors as Beau Bridges and Dianne Keaton.

John Hicks, General Manager of The Academy said: “We are so delighted that Kenny is joining the extensive list of world class musicians who regard our venue and Basingstoke as the place they wish to visit. To host Lisa’s European Tour was terrific news but for her to choose to host her CD launch party at The Academy and to invite Kenny Edwards is wonderful.”

Lisa herself hit the headlines in the US on her way over to the UK when her flight was marred when a suspected terrorist was arrested in-flight and her plane had to be diverted to New York from Los Angeles. She is now safely in Basingstoke for her rehearsals and media activity.

IT DON’T HURT will make its debut at The Academy on July 21 during a special CD-launch bash, a full 10 days before its “official” street date. The Roots/Americana diva can rely on her loyal U.K. fans to fill the room, as those fans have followed her since the 2002 release of her debut CD, AM I TOO BLUE, and the 2005 issue, PEACE OF MIND.

The show starts at 8pm with country music radio and television presenter, Lee Williams of CMR Nashville radio, playing old favourites and the latest releases across the whole spectrum of country music and taking the night through to 2am with audience requests.

Admission is £10 on the door, over 18’s only; doors open at 7.30pm. Advance booking is advised and tickets are now available on-line at http://www.academyclubs.com/ where full details of this and other original artists appearing in 2007 at the Academy live music venue, alongside their popular tribute band shows, are available.
